Applied Nutrition

Our master’s degree in applied nutrition allows you to choose one of two concentrations: Obesity and Eating Disorders or Fitness and Sports Nutrition. With both concentrations, you’ll evaluate nutritional programs, translate theory to practice and learn how to conduct and comprehend nutrition research. Each track culminates in an individualized master’s project where you can combine your core coursework, theoretical knowledge, and research.

Health and Human Performancehybrid

Health and Human Performance

The Master’s Degree in Health and Human Performance from Canisius trains students in the areas of rehabilitative and preventative health, with a special emphasis on cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and health promotion. This program features hand-on learning in the state-of-the-art Health and Human Performance Center on campus, which features a rehabilitation area, lecture and seminar rooms, anthropometric room and a biochemistry room. This program is geared toward students and professionals in allied health professions who want to new careers or to advance in their current career.

Graduates of the Health and Human Performance master’s degree program will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of basic nutrition principles and how they relate to exercise performance and health.
  • Understand and be able to apply behavior change principles as they apply to health settings
  • Understand 12-lead electrocardiography to be able to identify heart rate, rhythm, electrical axis, and any signs of hypertrophy, injury, ischemia or infarction.
  • Use statistics as a tool for evaluating data and drawing inferences, and for judging the strength and quality of data used in research in health professions.
  • Apply concepts of epidemiology to evaluate the potential impact of health and lifestyle decisions on health status improve individual and community health.
